Our Story
Gilbert School of Music is Arizona’s newest place to learn music! Located in the center of the East Valley in the town of Gilbert, here you will be able to learn almost any instrument at almost any age! Music instruction is available to as young as 18-months-old, up to children of all ages, up to adults. Read on to get to know a bit about our story and how we got here!

Gilbert School of Music or “GSM” is the 2nd location of our nationally recognized school. The 1st location is located in Westminster, California, and goes by the name Westminster Arts Academy. In 2019, it was awarded the National Music School of the Year Award. The school has made the cover of such publications as the Los Angeles Times and has been featured on major television networks NBC and Univision.
Return to Arizona
The decision to expand to Arizona came from long-time ties to the area. In the mid to late 2000s, founder Dr. Bob Rios had relocated to Phoenix along with his daughters and current owners Teresa and Augustina. There he opened a piano studio, one of many he had opened in those years. Due to health reasons, the family had to move back to California and the Phoenix location was closed. Now 12 years later, the return to Arizona has been made, and Dr. Rios’s mission to bring over his unique approach to music lessons can now be fulfilled.

Gilbert School of Music is the latest chapter of a long history of music education at its finest. We have been in the music teaching business for over 50 years. Our founder started teaching at the age of 16 and spent decades instructing thousands of children and adults, instilling his love of music and the arts onto his students. We have always been a family business that is heavily active in the community. Since the passing of founder Dr. Robert Rios in 2013, the schools are now run by his son Francis and daughters Teresa and Augustina all of who have been involved in the business since the very beginning. This is what they do, what they have always done, and what they truly love!
When taking lessons at Gilbert School of Music, you are part of a long lineage of music instruction and performance. Thousands have learned at our schools and for good reason.
