Overview

Whether you aspire to play Bach or Alicia Keys, Our dedicated piano instructors will help you become the pianist you want to be. Our faculty will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight-reading, technique, and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not need an acoustic piano at home to take lessons; a simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first six months.

    Why take piano lessons?

Learning and playing the piano has been scientifically proven to help with brain development and prevent hearing and memory loss. Students are significantly better at math because of its connections to music. Music is like learning another language, thus exercising new language skills. Reading comprehension and creativity are increased. Memorizing music helps improve memory skills. The piano requires concentration, patience, and discipline. Coordination is also required by using moving hands and sometimes both feet for the pedals. But best of all, learning the piano is a great stress reliever and simply fun and easy to learn! A great starting instrument for young children, since making the sound of the piano is as easy as pressing down the key.

What’s the #1 reason to study the piano at Gilbert School of Music?

Our piano instructors are warm and friendly and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s unique needs and favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the piano after many years, our instructors will share their love for the piano and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of piano do you teach?

We teach all styles: rock, pop, jazz, country, blues, and classical to name a few. Tell us your favorite artist or music, and we will pair you with an instructor that will help you play those songs you love.

How qualified are Gilbert School of Music's piano instructors?

We carefully select instructors that are professionals in the music industry and/or have a college degree in music. All instructors work great with all ages and genuinely love teaching just as much as they love music. Upon registration, tell us your expectations and we will set you up with the right instructor that works for you or your child. See our instructors page for more information on each instructor.

Do I need a piano to learn the instrument?

No, you do not need a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. After that, modern digital pianos can take you well into your piano learning journey. We offer a variety of keyboards and digital pianos appropriate for all levels. Upon registration, we can discuss the right instrument that fits your budget, as well as payment plans. Want an acoustic piano? Both digital and acoustic pianos have unique advantages. We can help you with your decision.

                  Are there piano recitals?

Absolutely! Every Summer and Winter, students have the opportunity to perform in a real theater and be treated like a concert pianist! Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform. All family and friends are welcome to attend. In addition to the on-stage recitals, we also provide virtual concerts and performances around the community. See our performance page for more information.
