Overview

If you've always wanted to hone your skills as a rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, Gilbert School of Music has the voice teacher for you. Our voice faculty is trained in a variety of styles such as pop, jazz, classical, or musical theater. Choose the style that works for you or start with the basics! Each week, students are led through physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, enunciation and more. Each student set goals with their teacher, either to sound like their favorite recording artist, or to develop their own unique voice. All students are taught through the comprehensive method – the “Singer’s Edge Program” where they can easily gauge their progress and master the foundations, musicality, and style.

    Why take voice lessons?

Singing is scientifically proven to relieve stress and anxiety. In addition, performing a song builds character and confidence. This leads to more confidence in public speaking. Other than the emotional benefits, there are physical benefits to knowing how to control your voice and posture.

What’s the #1 reason to study the voice at Gilbert School of Music?

Our voice instructors work with each student and parent on a personal level to craft a lesson plan that fits the student's individual needs and favorite type of music. Whether you’re a singer in a band, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to singing after many years, our friendly, dedicated teachers will share their love of popular or classical music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of voice do you teach?

We teach all styles: rock, pop, jazz, country, R&B, classical, or musical theater to name a few. Tell us your favorite artist or music, and we will pair you with an instructor that will help you sing those songs you love.

How qualified are Gilbert School of Music's voice instructors?

We carefully select instructors that are professionals in the music industry and/or have a college degree in music. All instructors work great with all ages and genuinely love teaching just as much as they love music. Our voice instructors have helped students perform in bands and musicals. Upon registration, tell us your expectations and we will set you up with the right instructor that works for you or your child. See our Instructors page for more information on each instructor.

What will I learn from voice lessons at Gilbert School of Music?

While using the “Singer’s Edge Program”, voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice.

              Are there voice recitals?

Absolutely! Every Summer and Winter, students have the opportunity to perform in a real theater and be treated like a true pop star! Equipped with a sound system, voice students will learn how to properly sing into a mic and learn stage presence for their performance. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform. All family and friends are welcome to attend. In addition to the on-stage recitals, we also provide virtual concerts and performances around the community. See our performance page for more information.
